There are some behaviors that might have served you well at some point in your life but, if left unchecked, will eventually derail your career. They include conflict avoidance, impulsiveness, blame-shifting, insisting on control, perfectionism, and power hunger. The first step is to recognize which of these reflects your own tendencies. The second is to preempt your instinctive response and instead engage in direct conversations about challenging issues, take time to think all decisions through, evaluate your own responsibility when mistakes happen, consider how you might delegate, satisfy yourself with good enough, or set up feedback systems to check your ambition.
